Pennsylvania Division for Early Childhood

Our Mission:

1. To promote parent-professional collaboration in all facets of planning, designing, and implementing early childhood intervention services.
2. Advocating for policy planning and best practice in prevention and intervention that supports young children with special needs and their families in integrated settings. Respect for family values, diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and family circumstances are integral considerations in DEC's prevention and intervention efforts.
3. Supporting those who work with or on behalf of infants and young children with special needs and their families by promoting collaboration and communication, innovations in research, dissemination and use of information, and professional development.
4. To support the goals of the Council for Exceptional Children and its members.

What's News

PADEC

(DIVISION OF EARLY CHILDHOOD)

PaDEC met in November during the state CEC conference.  Those in attendance were very interested in our state group becoming more active.  Suggestions to work towards this goal include speaking at a State meeting of EI supervisors, applying for a regional DEC training event grant and working to restart the state EI conference.

 Committees were formed to apply for the DEC Regional training grant.  Three grants will be awarded by the national DEC to design a one-day training.  The grant application was submitted in November.  We have not received word yet on whether this grant was funded.

 Three members volunteered to speak about DEC at the state EI supervisor’s meeting and are waiting for dates.

 Many members expressed that they miss the EI conference and it was suggested that we write to EITA and the Pennsylvania Department of Special Education about the lack of this conference to the EI community.
